  • Outboard Excessive Motor Movement

I have a 1992 Johnson 150 Silver Star motor. I have noticed when I hit the throttle, that the motor moves backwards as if the transom is giving. I inspected the motor and it is not the transom. I'm not quite sure of the terminology but the movement is coming from the top part of the spindle where the motor is steered. There is a plate where the steering cable connects. Further back where the motor connects to the mounting bracket (the pivot point between the mounting bracket and the motor), the top part seems to be damaged allowing it to move when the throttle is hit.

Does anyone have any experience with this or know what the name of the parts are so I can begin my research. Thanks for the help in advance.

Probably broken upper motor mounts, they are bolted to steering arm.
