  • Flywheel removal

I have a 1968 40 hp johnson elec. shift, I want to check or replace the points and condenser do I have to remove the flywheel? Or is ther another way?
I have a wheel puller and thought I could remove the flywheel but i'm not sure
guess i'm just a rookie. any help would be appreaciated. Thanks

yea you have to remove the fly wheel to get at the coils and wiring fully. Use your wheel puller and tap lightly on the fly wheel after you have created enough pull with the puller and the wheel will pop rate off, be careful and take your time though, if your careless or in a rush about it you could potentially loose the shim key for your flywheel
