2R78R lower unit questions

I have a couple of questions, any info appreciated. 2R78R, 2HP Sea Horse.

Lower unit lube question. The owners manual says to use OEM Johnson lube. I found some Pennzoil, Marine, Lower Unit Gear Lube, SAE 80W90, API GL-5. Is this lube ok to use? What were the ratings on the OEM Johnson lube?

Prop removal question. Service manual says to remove cotter pin. I don't think mine still had the cotter pin. Good bit of corrosion. Cleaned that out, but there seems to be an obstruction about half way through hole. Solid, won't move with light taps on it. What might that be? How does the cotter pin fit into the shaft? Any ideas on how to get the propeller off?

That oil will work. The cotter pin may be broke off in hole, if it had a regular steel cotter pin instead of stainless steel then it's probably going to hard to remove.
