basic looper 140 questions

When did johnson first come out with the looper 140? what years did they offer the VRO system on the loopers? How can you tell if you have the v6 lower or not?

I think 1980 was the first one and the VRO started in 1984.

The 140 Loopers where first sold in 1985-1987 and these where a small bore(3.500) bridged exhaust model. Then in 1988-1994 they went to the big bore(3.685) block and 1984 is correct on year of VRO engines. The V-4 loopers use the V-6 housing but different gears as ratio is different, the V-6 housing will measure 4-5/8 across housing as the smaller housing will measure 3-5/8across.
