I have a 1988, 15hp engine, J15RCCS. The engine will start and idle ok, but will stall out when I put it into gear. Is this a carb problem? Rebuilding the carb fix the problem?

In most cases it is a dirty carb causing it, I would remove and clean carb.

Maybe you have advice for me--I have the 40 horse 2 cycle--it runs smoothly enough on load--either fast or slow. But I can't get it to idle well at all without it in gear--and as the previous gentleman reports, I have a hard time getting it into gear without stalling.
I've siphoned all old gas and have sea foam in five gallons of gas hoping that might take out any varnish etc.

Engine stalls out before I can get it into gear

Probably needs carbs cleaned as well, check compression is ok.
